About IELTS Exam
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is one of the world’s most recognized English language proficiency tests for individuals planning to study, work, or migrate abroad. It is accepted by thousands of universities, employers, immigration authorities, and professional organizations in countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and many other English-speaking destinations.
The IELTS exam evaluates your English language skills in four key areas: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The test is designed to assess how effectively you can communicate in academic, professional, and everyday situations. The Listening, Reading, and Writing sections are completed on the same day without breaks, with a total test duration of approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. The Speaking test is conducted separately with a certified IELTS examiner.
There are two types of IELTS tests:
Academic IELTS and General Training IELTS
The Listening and Speaking sections are the same for both modules, while the Reading and Writing sections are tailored to the purpose of the test. Academic IELTS is intended for higher education, whereas General Training IELTS is suitable for work experience, migration, and vocational training.
General Facts
- IELTS test dates are available throughout the year, with multiple test sessions conducted every month for both Academic and General Training modules.
- Paper-based IELTS results are usually released within 13 days, while computer-delivered IELTS results are generally available within 3–5 days.
- Candidates receive one original Test Report Form (TRF) and may request additional TRFs to be sent directly to universities or other recognized institutions.
- IELTS scores are valid for 2 years from the test date and are accepted by more than 12,000 organizations.
- Both Paper-Based and Computer-Delivered IELTS tests are available, allowing candidates to choose their preferred test format.
